For children who are ready, Walking Woombye opens the door to the people, places and experiences of our local community.

In small, well-supported groups, children may visit the library, Woombye State School, the community garden, local businesses, parks and other familiar places. They participate in community events, including festivals and lantern parades, meet local people and learn about the stories and traditions that make Woombye special.

Through these regular experiences, children learn how to move safely through their community, communicate with others and become increasingly confident and independent. They are not simply learning about community—they experience themselves as welcomed, capable and contributing members of it.

Each walk is carefully planned and risk assessed, with children’s individual readiness, group size and educator support thoughtfully considered.
