Farm Kindergarten – Green House Farm
Set on 40 acres of beautiful hinterland country in nearby Kureelpa, Green House Farm offers our very very lucky WCK Explorers get to experience something increasingly rare—an entire day to experience the life, rhythms and responsibilities of a real working farm environment.
A full day of real experiences
Farm Kindergarten takes place on a set day, with families dropping off and collecting children directly from the farm. Children spend the whole day there, giving them uninterrupted time to explore, work, play, investigate and follow their ideas without being hurried.
The farm has a dedicated, cottage base with a kitchen, refrigerator and two plumbed bathrooms, providing a comfortable and practical base throughout the day.
Time to return, contribute and belong
The real value of Farm Kindergarten comes from children returning regularly. They do not simply visit the farm or observe it from a distance—they come to know it.
They know the animals, notice changes in the paddocks and gardens and understand that living things require consistent care. They can return to work begun previously, follow the progress of plants and animals and see the results of their own contribution. This continuity gives children time to build knowledge, confidence and a genuine sense of belonging to the farm.
Learning alongside animals
Green House Farm is home to donkeys, pigs, steers, ponies and horses. Children observe their movements, behaviours and individual characteristics while learning how to approach and spend time near animals respectfully.
Alongside experienced educators, children may help with meaningful farm tasks such as checking water, preparing feed, observing animal health and caring for the places in which the animals live.
These encounters help children understand that animals are living beings with their own needs, boundaries and ways of communicating. Care, empathy and responsibility grow through real relationships and repeated experience.
From the garden to the table
In the garden, children dig, plant, water, weed and harvest. They investigate insects, soil, weather and the conditions plants need to grow. Produce may be prepared, shared or sold, helping children understand where food comes from and the work involved in bringing it to the table.
Through returning across the seasons, children experience the full cycle—not simply planting a seed, but waiting, tending, noticing, harvesting and beginning again.
The Woombye Way at the farm
Farm Kindergarten brings inquiry learning to life. A hoofprint, an empty water trough, a newly emerging seedling or a change in an animal’s behaviour can become the beginning of a shared investigation.
Children ask questions, test ideas, solve authentic problems and learn alongside educators who listen closely and value their thinking. They develop practical capability, persistence, cooperation, empathy and an understanding that their actions make a difference.
Farm Kindergarten is not an occasional farm experience. It is a place our WCK Explorers return to, contribute to and grow within—gifted the time to form meaningful relationships with the animals, the land and one another.
